Middle School Golf Overview
-
Welcome to TMS Golf!
Golf, unfortunately, is not an inexpensive school sport. The team does not receive any funds to pay for your student's passes or gold shirts, and we will detail those approximate costs for you below. Please know that if finances are an issue, you can speak with the coach, Ms. Crawford, privately.
If your student needs to ride the bus from school to the golf course for practice, Bus #25 (tentatively) will be the bus they need to ride. They may bring their clubs with them to school for the first practice only and leave them in the middle school office. Ms. Crawford will pick them up and take them to the golf course. Due to federal and state regulations, large objects are not allowed to be transported on the bus every day; therefore, golfers will need to rent a locker at the golf course to store their clubs.
Please read through the information below and email Ms. Crawford with any questions you may have. Practice begins on April 4th, weather permitting.
Golf Guidelines

Rules & Expectations
- Academics come first. Sports are not an excuse to perform poorly in the classroom, so please ensure you maintain your grades, e-learning assignments, and other homework. The Athletic Department and Ms. Crawford will check midterm grades. If a student is struggling with grades during this time, he/she may be put on academic probation.
- Communication is important. If you are going to miss a practice or meet, you must email Ms. Crawford.
- If a practice is skipped without a good reason, your student will not be able to play in the next match.
- If a student is riding home from an AWAY match with their parent(s), they must have a note handed or emailed to Mr. Ayars or Ms. Crawford no later than 24 hours prior to the meet.
- Practices after school begin at 3:20. Expect to be at the golf course until at least 4:40 most nights. We will use the range, chipping greens, and putting greens most often, and we will also try to get out onto the course.
- Course dress: For meets, you will be expected to dress appropriately. This involves shirts or golf attire and proper shorts or pants (khaki or black pants are preferred, but NO blue jeans). Athletic shorts are not appropriate. We will purchase team shirts.
- Note: it is respectful to the game and to our course, which many are members of, and so are you. They follow the same guidelines.
- Dress for the weather and temperature! We will play in rainy conditions, and when it is hot or cold. Be prepared!
- Course etiquette should be followed at all times, and we will discuss this before the first meet. This includes:
- Fixing divots
- Repairing ball marks
- Quiet when others are teeing off or putting
- Marking your ball on the green
- Playing ready golf
- Not walking in another player's line
- Attire: You'll be responsible for purchasing your golf shirt this season (cost is usually around $30). For meets, please wear khakis or black shorts/pants.
- Season Pass & Range Pass: the total for BOTH passes is a total of $185* (as of 2022-2023) paid to Tipton Municipal Golf Course.
*This is the previous year's rate, and it may have changed. This gives you the ability to play the course throughout the week and have unlimited range balls; weekends may have a time constraint. - Lastly, understand that all players are at different levels in the sport. Treat others, including opponents, with great respect. It is our intent to have all team members play competitively in a match, but that is not a promise. Our competition is really good for many of our matches, and some will be less skilled. If we and our opponents have enough players, we may be able to play both (an "A" and "B" match).

Equipment
To play golf, you need:
- Golf clubs. If you need assistance, please reach out to Ms. Crawford.
- Warm and cool weather clothes. If it is below 40 degrees, the team will be inside. Be prepared to practice in light rain.
- Golf attire. Preferably a polo and khakis. Please, no athletic shorts or sleeveless t-shirts.
- Range pass. At the minimum, you need this pass to be able to play on the team. If there is a financial issue, please reach out to Ms. Crawford.
- To take it seriously. The sport has rules, and proper etiquette must be followed.
- Parents, please join Ms. Crawford's Remind group. This allows her to communicate with you. That information will be provided with the documents your student receives.
