Meet the Coach
-
Beth Unger is the Middle School cheerleading coach. She's been coaching for Tipton--and this sport--for twelve years. She graduated from Tipton High School in 2006, and went on to get her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from IWU.
Mrs. Unger is also a member of the Tipton County Pork Festival Committee, and has been for the last seven years; recently, she became Vice President of the festival.
She's been married to her husband, Zackery, for nearly four years. Recently, she acquired her NREMT license and got her Mandatories for firefighting. She's a proud member of the Sharpsville Fire Department.
She started coaching in 2010/2011 as the sixth grade basketball cheer coach. She coached for a couple of years before moving up to assistant coach, and finally, she became the head coach.
Rules & Expectations
-
Is there a booster club?
At this time, the middle school cheerleaders do not have a Booster/Parent Club.
-
Is there a cost to join?
There is a cost of being a part of the team (unspecified). Coach Unger highly recommends that if the cost is an issue, students talk to her--she doesn't want the cost to keep the girls from cheering.
-
What are the expectations for athletes?
Coach Unger expects athletes to give 110% while in the sport and to represent the school at a high level of respect.
-
What are the rules/requirements for being on the team?
There aren't any requirements for the girls to be part of the team: they make the team based solely on their scores that happen during tryouts. Coach Unger only asks that once they make the team, they are dedicated to giving 110% to the squad.
-
What equipment is required?
There is equipment needed to participate! Uniforms and warmups are provided by the school, but the cheerleader will be responsible for providing the following:
- Shoes
- Bows
- Poms
- Spanks
- Camp clothes
- Camp costs
-
What sort of attire is to be worn to school on game days?
Gameday attire for school will be warmup attire, unless it's really hot--in that case, cheerleaders will wear jeans and a
cheer shirt to school.Uniforms will never be worn to school.
-
When are practices? Are they mandatory?
Practices are Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-7 during June and July. Summer practices are highly suggested, but the coaching staff is aware that families take vacations. The cheer squad doesn't do conditioning.
Practices will start to become mandatory once we get closer to the start of the season.
-
When are the tryouts/callout dates?
The squad typically holds callouts during March, and tryouts in April. Dates depend on availability
-
When is the parent meeting?
The parents' meeting will be held the Monday following tryouts to go over costs and dates for the summer practices.
